Phlebotomy

The Phlebotomy course is a 10-day hybrid program. The first 9 days involve asynchronous online coursework, which includes presentations, quizzes, and a final exam. All online coursework must be completed before attending the in-person lab session.

On lab day, students will review the coursework, have the opportunity to ask questions, and take a written exam to qualify for the hands-on portion. The lab session will begin with a review of equipment and safety procedures, followed by practice needle sticks on simulation arms.

Once students are comfortable using the equipment and demonstrate safe techniques on the simulation arms, they will move on to performing live needle sticks with their peers under the guidance of the instructor.

Completion certificates will be awarded to students who demonstrate competency at the end of the lab session.

No national exam is required in the state of Iowa
